Italy... Pinerest... Word Pictures, etc

When writing stories (especially period, historical or fantasy stories, of by gone days), do you ever find it hard to imagine how things, people and settings look like? The problem is, if you find it hard, your readers will even find it harder! Well, I often fall into that struggle. Having heard often that using pictures while writing helps you create an idea of how things ought to look like, and then it becomes easier to translate that into words on paper made me want to try it out. The only thing was, I couldn't find any proper images of the Ancient Roman period, both for people, buildings and landscapes on the Internet so it got quite frustrating. Well, yesterday I discovered Pinerest, and some amazing images of Italy, that just stir my imagination for my book, The Crown of Life. They were truly beautiful! (p.s. a character list of The Crown of Life, with image profiles will be coming soon as well Lord willing). Enjoy!

I love the earthy and archaic feel of this scene. Don't you?

WOW! I don't know how I'd like living up there....

I love this balcony scene, the flowers are so lovely

This isn't 'Ancient' but I love it all the same <3

This must be the room where the Romans had their dinner or something, or it could have been a bedroom :).

Romantic, eh? Positively Italian! (don't ask me why, it just is)

Hope you enjoyed those images of Italy. They certainly have given pictures to floating, random words in my head. I can imagine Marcellus and Claudia fleeing the Praetorian Guards on horseback near those jagged cliffs by the sea above, or the peace and serenity of those quiet country villages up in the Italian countryside as a perfect setting for the Claudia to meet... Oops! I mustn't say anymore, or I will ruin the story for you :)...

Anyway, I thought it might be nice to share that. And I know I should be definitely doing something beside blogging right now... I have at least two or three e-mails to reply to, plus I want to write a little in The Crown of Life before the day is over. So, bye for now!

"I will love thee, O LORD, my strength. The LORD is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer; my God, my strength, in whom I will trust; my buckler, and the horn of my salvation, and my high tower." Psalm 18: 1, 2 KJV

  7. Joy,

Hi! My name is...Joy! :) I found your blog through Lucia from Lucia, Etc.

My mama and I are on Pinterest...we love it! So many neat ideas and picures on there!

Can't wait to hear about your book. The fourth picture in your post would make a good scene for a mysterious night scene, I think. :) And that last picture is beautiful!

I'm writing a book, too--mine is based in a Chinese orphanage.

    God bless you!
    Joy :D
