"What a Friend We Have in Jesus"

"What A Friend We have in Jesus"
What a friend we have in Jesus,

All our sins and griefs to bear!
What a privilege to carry
Everything to God in prayer!
Oh, what peace we often forfeit,
Oh, what needless pain we bear,
All because we do not carry
Everything to God in prayer!

Have we trials and temptations?
Is there trouble anywhere?
We should never be discouraged—
Take it to the Lord in prayer.
Can we find a friend so faithful,
Who will all our sorrows share?
Jesus knows our every weakness;
Take it to the Lord in prayer.

Are we weak and heavy-laden,
Cumbered with a load of care?
Precious Savior, still our refuge—
Take it to the Lord in prayer.
Do thy friends despise, forsake thee?
Take it to the Lord in prayer!
In His arms He’ll take and shield thee,
Thou wilt find a solace there.

Blessed Savior, Thou hast promised
Thou wilt all our burdens bear;
May we ever, Lord, be bringing
All to Thee in earnest prayer.
Soon in glory bright, unclouded,
There will be no need for prayer—
Rapture, praise, and endless worship
Will be our sweet portion there.

Joseph M. Scriven

Here is a lovely version of the hymn. Enjoy!

My sisters and I spent sometime yesterday, praising the Lord in song together, and it was truly wonderful. Mary played the piano and I played a bit of violin, and Sarah and Grace and all of us sang for a while, and the Lord really blessed the time, and gave us joy in Him. The first hymn we sang was "What A Friend We Have in Jesus", and it truly encouraged my heart. The words are beautiful, and ring so true. Thank you Lord Jesus, for your love and faithfulness. That truly, there is no friend like You, no comforter beside You! I love you, Lord...

P.S. I know a lot of my favourite blogs have wonderful, inspiring new posts on (i.e. Maddy, April, Carra Rachel), I'm sorry I haven't commented till now. The last week's been really hectic and busy and since it is the last week of the holidays, there are many things that have to be done before schooling starts in earnest again, but I promise to get to comment soon, Lord willing! Also, my sister Sarah has a really lovely History Serial on her blog, that I'm sure many of you will enjoy, called "Halls of Faith". Check it out here.Have a blessed day in the Lord, dear sisters!

  3. Dearest Joy,

That sounded like such a special time. What joy and blessing, to praise the Lord together with your sisters! It was so encouraging to hear this, and has encouraged me to sing with Harry and Guy more often, in worship of the Lord. Indeed we should do it more often, shouldn't we!
This reminded me, too, of the special times we have had (you, Sarah, Mary and I), playing and praising the Lord together!

    With lots of love,
    Maddy

  4. Dearest Maddy,

It was indeed a blessed time singing praises to our Saviour as sisters :). Yes, we don't do it nearly enough either. We had lovely times playing music and singing to the Lord together, didn't we. I thank the Lord for that!

    In His unfailing love,
    ~Joy
